Six weeks before

  • Get quotes from removal companies and book your preferred date
  • Start decluttering — fewer items means a cheaper, faster move
  • Notify your current landlord or provide notice, if applicable

Two to three weeks before

  • Set up mail redirection with Royal Mail
  • Arrange for utilities and broadband to be transferred or set up at the new address
  • Update your address with your bank, employer, GP, and the DVLA
  • Confirm arrangements for children's or pets' care on moving day, if relevant

The week of the move

  • Start packing room by room, labelling boxes clearly
  • Confirm final details with your removal company and solicitor
  • Prepare an "essentials box" — kettle, chargers, toiletries, important documents
On completion day itself: take meter readings at both properties, keep your phone charged, and expect some flexibility around exactly when keys will be released.
